Body+Mind+Soul Sunday

Hey everyone,

First, I apologize for not getting this post to your inbox on Sunday. I read the calendar wrong. Sorry!

So–I’m adding something new to the blog.

I believe a good day, a healthy day, a cleansing day, is a day where you energize your body, mind, and soul.

But in the demands of daily life it’s easy to ignore the three most elemental areas of yourself.

And so we move from one day to the next–further and further from the person we want to be.

My goal is to offer you three things (exercises, food, books, music, theories, quotes, etc.) each Sunday that have improved my body, mind, and soul. Sort of a behind-the-scenes look a at my life.

Look, I have three active children and a home to manage. I’m a full-time teacher and writer living with a chronic illness who wants to needs to make time in my life for me–to grow and improve myself.

I hear people all the time say, “I don’t have any time to work on myself.” I hear you. I don’t either. But I going to try.

And I hope you join me.

Also, I believe working on yourself is not a selfish practice. In fact, you need to be have a healthy, mind, and soul so you may better care for the people you love.

Here is the first edition of Body+Mind+Soul Sunday– a simple, three point list of things that have energized, helped, informed, and inspired me and I hope they do the same for you.

Body:

For the last two months I have been practicing going to bed without scrolling through my phone. Lights out means lights out.  I’ll admit–I have seen a noticeable improvement in my sleep. I’ve been able to fall asleep faster and I’m sleeping restfully throughout the night. Here’s some science: Put the Phone Away!

Mind:

On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life by John O’Leary was gifted to me by my friend Jen, who barely survived a car accident when she was a teenager. On Fire tells the inspiring true story of how, as a child, John suffer 3rd degree burns on 100% of his body. Easy to read, thought-provoking, and puts your problems and pains into perspective.

Soul:

“Only emotion endures.”- Ezra Pound

Have a great week!

Be well,

Jay
